COVID-19 Up date on Guidance August 2020

By Dominic Magne

At the onset of the pandemic the Home Office granted the facility of those whose permission was expiring between the 24th January 2020 and the 31st July 2020, to have their permission extended on an exceptional basis up until the 31st July 2020.

The extension was contingent upon an application having been made to the Home Office.

The government has not extended this concession but instead has granted a grace period whereby individuals must either leave the United Kingdom by the 31st August or apply for a specific Permission to Remain.

At the time of the publishing of this guidance numerous countries remain closed. See: -

For these reasons, the policy may change again but until such time , individuals need to understand their current position:

Any one who has had their Leave to Remain expire after the 24th January 2020, must either depart from the UK by the 31st August 2020, or apply to extend their permission under a specific category of Permission to Remain.
